I have compiled a list of top 5 most offensive, explicit, rude and disturbing viral commercials that I have seen in the recent years. Most of these videos have been seen by millions and entailed public debates. They are great examples of what it takes to produce successful viral adverts.
1. Danish Mother
In this video, a single mother Karen is looking for the father of her baby. She says she met the father only once, when he was in Copenhagen. They had sex and made a baby same night they met. She can’t remember his name, how he looks or who he is. So she uploads a video clip on Youtube asking people to help her find the father.
Many people felt sympathy towards the mother and left inspiring comments on her blog and Youtube. The video went on TV. Shortly after, it turned out to be a hoax – a viral to promote Denmark as a tourist destination. Karen was an actress, there was no baby and no father.
The video was quickly removed from Youtube, leaving space for spoofs and public debate. Many people felt offended, particularly Danes themselves. Marketing gurus loved it. Karen’s career as an actress skyrocketed.
2. Studivz Virals
Some years ago, Studivz launched a couple of very raw viral adverts to promote their student social network.
One of the videos shows a fat girl being kidnapped, humiliated and mocked by a street gang. The gang hates fat people because they are fat.
Fat Girl
Another video shows a gang killing a vegetarian guy and feeding him to pigs. The gang believes vegetarians don’t deserve to live because they “eat the food that belongs to the livestock”.
I Hate Vegetarians
Both videos invited people to join the social network and make their own statements. While some people found the videos extremely rude and offensive, many found them very original and entertaining. The videos were quickly removed from major video sites.
3. Dove Onslaught
In this video, Dove shows a young girl who is about to face all the dangers of beauty industry, including plastic surgery, liposuction, weight pills and the like. The video warns the viewer against the adverse effects of such procedures and goes on to suggest Dove products for natural look and self-confidence.
Shortly after the video went live, Greenpeace released a shocking video in response to Dove. The response video revealed how Dove products are actually made. The video features a young Indonesian girl seeing how her county’s forest is massively destroyed for palm oil production. The oil is widely used across Dove products.
The parody has been more popular than the original video and gained a lot of public support. As a result, Unilever, the company behind Dove, imposed a moratorium on deforestation for palm oil production, agreeing to support the call by Greenpeace.
4. Diesel XXX Party & Meat Puppet
Last year, Diesel rolled out a bunch of hilarious viral adverts targeting urban youth. One of the videos is a compilation of porn films animated into a safe for work cartoon.

Another video shows a disturbing life story of Pete – a puppet made of meat.
Meet Pete – A Puppet Of Meat
These two pieces of very provocative and creative work have pushed away some of Diesel’s loyal fans on one hand, and gained a lot new ones, on the other.
5. Sprite Sex Ad
In this video, a hot looking girl is giving a blow job to a guy. As the footage comes to its end, the woman gets a shot of Sprite in her mouth. Allegedly, the ad was produced either by a competitor or some random Sprite lover. Sprite denied ownership of the ad and pulled it from major video sites.
